Security for one of Ireland’s largest industrial campus
Greenogue and Aerodrome Business Parks are one of Ireland’s largest industrial campus. The Campus comprises a mix of 300+ modern industrial, warehousing and manufacturing facilities spread across 350 acres. The Estate Management wanted a comprehensive security solution taking into account some of the logistic and distribution firms operate 24/7 and there are public roads running through the estate.
The initial security system had to be expandable as the Campus is growing and the security needs evolving. Sharp Group Fire & Security Services turnkey solution was chosen. From the initial design through to installation and ongoing maintenance Sharp has provided a thoroughly comprehensive and expandable Campus security solution.
Sharps fully accredited Alarm & Visual Command Control Centre was appointed to manage, monitor and direct Campus mobile patrols. Our operators also control automated barriers and can communicate with people wanting to enter the area via intercoms. As part of our turnkey solution we have installed over 280 fire & intruder alarms to the business units in both business parks.
Many of these businesses have chosen our Control Centre to monitor their alarms and increasingly, their units perimeter CCTV. Recent Control Centre enhancements enable us to monitor Building Management Systems covering security systems and remote environment controls for temperature, lighting and machinery including lifts.
Technical Challenge:
The main technical challenge was how to integrate the Campus surveillance video, access control and intercoms spread over such a large area. Sharp chose to distribute all these services over a fibre optic network. As the security requirements have expanded due to more businesses choosing moving to the Campus, Sharp added networked wireless hubs linked back to our Command and Control Centre. Proven wireless technology was installed for strategically located points to distribute signals from new cameras and access control equipment. Secure wireless technology was chosen as the cost of additional civil work and laying extra fibre was financially prohibitive.
Surveillance & Monitoring:
In order to monitor the vast Campus, a hybrid surveillance system with over 50 cameras was chosen using analogue and IP cameras. IP cameras have been deployed at entrance and exit points. Junctions, roundabout and all roads are covered by a mixture of PTZ and fixed cameras. The entire surveillance system is monitored by our control centre 24/7. We have added video analytics on several strategic cameras. Our control centre can make remote changes to the cameras using analytics, offering unparalleled flexibility without having the cost and time required for an engineer drive to the location.
Access control & barriers:
Businesses operating around the clock, are protected by our automated barriers, controlled out of hours by the businesses and our Control Centre. We designed stainless steel posts with dual height intercoms to provide two way audio for visiting cars and trucks. Access control proximity readers are fitted on the posts to facilitate the business personnel out of hours entry and exit. In order to capture all licence plates and vehicle drivers we installed multiple cameras at all access control points. On the private Campus roads, where businesses don’t need 24/7 access we installed manual lockable barriers. Closed out of office hours providing protection for 100s of premises. Our mobile patrols provide the opening and closing of the barriers. Businesses can make arrangements with the Control Centre to have these barriers opened when required.
Man Guarding: Mobile patrols and keyholding services
Sharp’s Control Centre monitoring has provided huge savings on man guarding. However with public roads running through the Campus and the associated security problems, our highly trained Man Guarding Division provide out of hours mobile patrols from 7pm to 7am, directed from the Control Centre. In order to speed up response times our Control Centre tracks all patrol vehicles in real time, enabling the closest patrol get to the incident in the least amount of time. We are now providing a keyholding and additional open/close services to many of the 300 Campus business owners.
